The Danger of Collar Charms

Our mission at Classic Hound is quality craftsmanship and style however pet safety must come above all else.

Dog collar charms are a popular way to display information or accessorize, but many pet owners don’t know the risks that they bring. Items such as hanging identification tags and accessory charms can easily get snagged and lead to suffocation, choking, or skin wounds. There is also the possibility of dog tags becoming entangled during roughhousing which can lead to injury.

Having accessories hanging from a collar can increase the risk of snagging. For example, collar tags will often get snagged on fences, heating grates, tree branches, cages and kennels. Even if a dog does not sustain serious injuries the situation can be incredibly traumatic. When situations like these happen, it is never a guarantee that a person will be around to witness and help. For the safety of your dog and others it is best to avoid collar charms, hanging identification tags or any other items that may dangle off of a collar and get caught. Classic Hound offers safer, custom IDs for most collars.
