All Natural Candy Cane Dog Treat
These treats are a classic tradition in our home. They turn out cute and the doggies definitely eat them up! While they are more time consuming than your average treat, totally worth it if you're going for candy cane look.
Red Dough
Cream Together:
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs
1/4 cup oil
1 cup pureed beets (steamed or oven roasted with skins pealed)
Sift together
2 cups all purpose white flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
Look at that beautiful beet color! Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture 1 cup at a time then sandwich dough between wax paper, roll out to 1/2" thickness and cut into strips like so:
White Dough
Cream together:
1/4 cup vegetable oil
1/4 cup butter
1 egg
3 Tbsp honey
Dry mixture:
3 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp baking soda
Add the flour mixture to the creamed mixture 1 cup at a time then sandwich dough between wax paper, roll out to 1/2" thickness and cut into strips like so:
Alternate strips of red beet dough with strips of white dough (again sandwiched between wax paper), roll out, and use the cookie cutter of your choice
Bake at 350 for 12 minutes.
